The HIMEK Alliance is a proposed regional cooperation of the Himalayan countries and the countries of the contiguous Mekong Region for mitigation of climate change. The concept is for a two-pronged strategy to include drastic reductions in emissions of black carbon, coupled with large scale forest land restoration and urban forestry in the region.
In July 2018, the IUCN Asia Regional Office, Bangkok and the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand signed an MOU on the basis of this concept paper.
EHF also supports the projects of the Coorg Wildlife Society and the Coorg Model Forest, besides assisting the initiatives of the Save Kodagu & Cauvery Campaign.
During the Covid-19 virus pandemic of 2020, EHF raised funds to the tune of Rs 2,28,000 and supplied masks to front line medical staff of private hospitals, to municipality workers and the police.
With wood fires in rural Indian kichens claiming lives due to indoor pollution (900,000 lives in 2010), EHF started a program in which they provided eco-friendly cook stoves to low-income families. These stoves work with minimum wood and produce very little smoke pollution. Not only is wood use reduced and lives saved, carbon emissions are cut too.
